SUNWAY COLLEGE, PETALING JAYA, 13 August 2016 – The grand finals of MIA-Sunway TES Accounting Quiz 2016 Competition was an intense battle of the brains and the winners were finally revealed.


The grand launching of the event was officiated by Yg Berusaha Mahamad Amran Kamsi, Principal Assistant Director of Co-curricular and Arts Division. Among other Guests of Honour present were Hishamuddin Jalil, ACCA Malaysia Head of Strategic  Partnership; Teo Ee Sing, Executive Director of Sunway College; Siew Wai San, Director of Sunway TES; Dr Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan and Datin SK Yap, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Membership and Operations of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) respectively.


A total of 15 teams were qualified for the final showdown. Winners get the bag home scholarships and cash prizes worth RM250,000.


For the team category, Team ACCA Eliza from SMK St Elizabeth (M) walked away with first prize. The team consists of three members: Aserah Anak Jawi, Cynthia Ling Zhen Yee and Ling Yii Fei. The runner-up was SMK USJ13, followed by SMK Damansara Jaya in third place. For the individual category, SMJK (P) China Pulau Pinang was crowned champion, followed by SMK Elizabeth (M) and SMK Gajah Berang respectively.


The purpose of the competition is to harbour interest and increase awareness about the accountancy profession among the students. The AQ 2016 is also supported by the Ministry of Education.


“We have been organising the AQ since 2013 with the aim to instil interest in the accountancy profession amongst students. The AQ is also a fun way to educate students about the career opportunities offered by the accountancy profession,” said Dr Nurmazilah.
