FMCG: WHY L'OREAL MALAYSIA IS THE BEST PLACE TO WORK?

by Graduan

1 / WHO ARE WE?

L’Oréal was created in 1909 by Eugéne Schueller, a visionary chemist with a tremendous entrepreneurial instinct. For the past centenary, L’Oréal has pursued a tireless quest: respond to the desire for well-being for millions of men and women and give every person the right to beauty by making it accessible. Today being present in more than 130 countries and marketing 28 International brands making us the No.1 cosmetics group worldwide.

2 / OUR BUSINESS

As a business leader through global brands, being creative and innovative have always been in our DNA which is clearly perceived by talents in general. To meet diversity of beauty needs and desires all around the world, L’Oréal constantly strive for something new through research and innovation. For us, beauty is about developing brands that have strong emotional connections with consumers. Beauty is a world in itself and the marketing for beauty is Unique. I personally believe that marketing for beauty is an ART. It is the supreme art of marketing because it goes beyond the usual and rational marketing. The marketing we do at L’Oréal is a unique combination of intelligence and emotion, reasoning and intuition rigor and sensitivity, details and visions, dream and reality – The Yin and the Yang always! It is quite exhausting but really fascinating! And this is what makes us so special, so different.

3 / OUR TALENT, OUR CULTURE, OUR DIVERSITY

The real secret weapon of L’Oréal is the Unique quality of its people. This is the engine that transforms a good strategy into an amazing success story every day. What makes the L’Oréal people so exceptional, different, so unique? I would say three characteristics: The Talents, The Diversity and The Passion! The most important assets of our company are the individual talents of the members of our teams. Some organisations believe more in the importance of the organisations and the processes, Not Us! We are not crazy about structures and processes, but we are crazy about talents. When I say talent, simply means talents from all disciplines – FINANCE, SALES, HR, COMMUNICATION/PR, SUPPLY CHAIN & MARKETING. In simple words, t is like any sports team by having the best talent on your team, you will WIN!

We also believe in necessary “Diversity of Talents”. For us by bringing talents of different gender, origins, ethnicities and profiles by creating what Lindsay Owen Jone calls ”A UNITED NATIONS OF BEAUTY”, BY BEING TRULY “GLOBAL FROM WITHIN” that will succeed. The third characteristic of the L’Oréal people, maybe the most important one is that they all have something in common – A PASSION! I know that it may sound strange and excessive but it is a reality that you can see and feel at L’Oréal. People are incredibly passionate about their brands, their products, the business and of course about what they do. They have an amazing sense of ownership. This is what makes them set ambitious goals for themselves and go after their career objectives relentlessly. This passion is what fuels the amazing energy of our company!

4 / CAREER WITH A GLOBAL COMPANY

If you are looking for an ambitious career built across multiple jobs, markets and countries? L’Oréal will be the place for you. We give you early responsibility and professional mobility with personalized training tracks and integration programmes. You want a working culture built on Energy, Passion and Fun? 5 / EMPLOYEE FIRST

We are a strong advocate of work life balance, one of our recent initiative is to have employees leave office at 4pm on Fridays to enjoy their weekends with family and friends. We are constantly enhancing ourselves according to the employment needs.

WHY I STARTED MY CAREER WITH L’ORÉAL MALAYSIA…

“I was attracted by L’Oréal Malaysia’s concept of the diversity of beauty, where it is defined in the different forms of brands, DNA, beliefs, business models not to mention a universe of products! I also wanted the opportunity to work on different brands, divisions, countries and be able to grow progressively and holistically as a well-rounded business individual while enjoying what I do every single day!”

HOW L’ORÉAL MALAYSIA SUPPORTS ITS STAFF…

“The company believes in building solid individuals according to its core competencies. Our orientation programmes are designed to provide newbies with a global view of what makes this machine operate. Also, to ensure that the newbies are more connected and integrated, mentors are assigned to advise and be a listening ear for the first six months. We are encouraged to ‘own’ projects and have great autonomy in handling them as our own business. Even junior executives can be business owners and drivers too!

HOW I ENDED UP IN PARIS…

“The company had always believed in my skill set to support my progress in building this unique strength throughout the years, providing me exposure not just locally but internationally. It has always been my pride and honour to represent Southeast Asia in the global Headquarters in Paris. It shows that the company identifies talents by their capabilities and skills, giving fair chance to talents, not just the big boys like China, Japan and Korea.”

OOH-LA-LA PARIS!

“I’ve been posted to Paris twice in my 10 years in the company. The first time in 2004 to 2006, I was a project manager for Maybelline New York managing development and coordination of my categories like Lips and Colours. I was in charge of developing the product shades, packaging and choosing the best formulae for Asia. I also provided coordination support to all the countries in Asia in terms of material, stocks, business drivers and other operational needs. Now back for the second time, my initial job was to head in entirety the brand’s full portfolio of make-up for Asia Pacific – creating the products from scratch! Since January this year, I’ve assumed my role in Asia Pacific Zone heading the business drivers and strategy for the Asia Pacific region for Maybelline New York.”

PROS OF WORKING WITH A MULTINATIONAL COMPANY LIKE L’ORÉAL MALAYSIA…

“You can always find yourself heading a different brand every two to three years so you are consistently challenged yet inspired and motivated! Moreover, it is one of the few companies that offer opportunities internationally, allowing talents to grow with a more open mindset, thinking bigger, and gaining more exposure with the different network from our global subsidiaries and counterparts.

AND ITS CHALLENGES…

“The level of complexities and multi-tasking is higher due to fast-paced environment. So staying focused and sharp is key in ensuring you stay on track without losing your way. Networking is also key in breaking the boundaries of communication; knowing more people allows you to obtain information quicker to make decisions faster, influencing for results, and getting the job done in the most efficient and effective way possible.”

WHY YOU SHOULD START YOUR CAREER AT L’ORÉAL MALAYSIA LIKE I DID!

“If you have the passion and drive for beauty, are eager to see how far you can push your limits and how far you can achieve bigger dreams, taking on the toughest challenges and seeing the greatest, most rewarding results, this is the place for you! You’ll never know your abilities until you discover your potential here.”
